I grew up in a town called Advance, which is in Davie County, North Carolina. I have an older sister who graduated from UNC Wilmington before me, and two younger brothers still living at home with my parents. My family has always been the most important part of my life. We like to pick on each other and are almost always in competition with one another, but there is never a shortage of love in our home.
I played two sports in High School: Swimming and Track. Swimming is still a part of my regular exercise routine. I really enjoy going on long morning runs through the cross country trails on campus. Eating healthy has become important to me and I love to cook my own food. My favorite recipe has to be mashed sweet potatoes, though I'm most known for my daily kale smoothies. UNC Wilmington was my first choice and the only university I applied to. I lived on the 4th floor of Hewlett during my freshman year as part of the LEAD program. I decided to major in Creative Writing because of my appreciation for literature, poetry, and a hope that I will leave behind the stories in my mind long after I die. I love reading for the escape, the slow sinking into another world where your worries are irrelavant and the stories of the characters all you can focus on. I chose my second major (Business Marketing) because I wanted to be able to use my writing skills in the corporate world. I think advertising is fascinating and hope to research the relationships between word choice and consumer expectations. The second semester of my junior year at UNC Wilmington was life-changing because I studied abroad in Sydney, Australia. You can read more about this experience in the "Study Abroad" tab under the "About" menu option. I am happiest on the beach with a book in my hand and the sunshine on my skin. (With some SPF 50) |
